Do you have these in black leather?
Over the weekend I got a pleasant text from my cousin asking if I had a pair of fabric earrings that she saw in my Etsy shop but in black leather. I didn’t but said I could make them in leather and she could also then choose clear or black crystal. She choose black. I have crystal beads in many colors and have a lot of fabric; so figured I probably didn’t have to go shopping.
I looked through some of my fabric with no luck and because all my fabric is not organized and easy to locate I thought it would be easier to buy the leather than to keep looking. So I bought 4 ½ inches of 2 fabrics. Most of my fabric earrings use decorator fabric samples, so I don’t have enough of the same fabric to make multiples. And although 4 ½ inches of fabric doesn’t seem like a lot, it makes quite a few pairs of earrings so I planned on making 5 pairs each.
Ok, got to the point in making the pairs of earrings where I only needed to add the beads and so my next questions was:
Where’s the black Swarovski? Do I even have any?
I looked in both my crystal stashes and again no luck. Then I remembered I don’t generally buy black Swarovski because I don’t think there is enough pop to justify the cost. I didn’t give my cousin a ship date but wanted to get the earrings out soon so meant I couldn’t wait for Fire Mountain Gems to deliver. We used to have quite a few local bead stores but most have closed down over the past 6 or 7 years. Lucky for me there is still one a few miles from my house. I knew it was getting late so jumped in my car.
Is that? Naw, couldn’t be!
As I parked my car, I saw what I thought was crochet hugging a trash can. Could it be? Yarn bombing in Reseda? In my Reseda? Yes, it was and I got a picture of it all. It was so exciting and truly made my day. Went in the bead store and came back to the yarn bombing was still there. I felt blessed to have seen it because I know it would be there long. The experience reminded me that art is everywhere, it doesn’t have to be yarn bombing but it should be appreciated.
